This year, Miami University’s marketing and social media team continued to push the boundaries of creativity. On Instagram, standing out means delivering authentic storytelling and building genuine community connections.

With nearly 1,000 pieces of content shared on Miami’s official Instagram page, we’re excited to highlight the Top 5 Instagram moments of the year—determined by fan engagement.


1. Miami Dad, Move In Video

Moving in is a special moment for many families. This Miami dad captured hearts by playing on a tongue-and-cheek trend that resonated with parents when leaving their student for the first time. 

This piece generated 57,364 engagements, 875,886 video views, and more than 6,700 people shared the video with their followers. 


2. Miami University and University of Miami collab 


The 2019 YouTube music video “ We Are Not The Same Person” by social media influencers Danny Gonzalez and Drew Gooden became a viral sound across Instagram and TikTok. The song was inspired by the fact that the two influencers were often confused as being the same person. 

The “ We Are Not The Same Person” sound gained popularity with TikTok users to showcase their doppelgangers. With so much confusion around Miami University and University of Miami, this sound was the perfect opportunity to set the record straight with fans.

Fan reactions? More than 1.3M video watches, 47,968 engagements with more than 6K people sharing this with their friends! 


3. Solar Eclipse Makes Appearance on Campus  


On April 8, 2024, Miami University and the Oxford community were in the pathway of a total solar eclipse. Miami’s photographers went out on campus and captured this rare moment in time, and their shots were well received by social media users. 

Their photos earned 10,936 engagements with nearly 160 people saving these photos to keep as a memory. 


4. Off-Campus House Names


If you are a student or an alumnus of Miami, you should know a tradition that is well-known in Oxford. That tradition is the naming of off-campus housing. This video was one filled with nostalgia and got our Miami community engaged in conversation. 

This video was watched more than 214.6K times, and drove 9,529 engagements including 260 comments and was shared more than 2.2K times. 


5. Ivy and Newton Halloween Shoot 


Spooky season is always a real treat on campus and Miami University President Greg Crawford and Ambassador Dr. Renate Crawford’s dogs Ivy and Newton were ready to greet students at Lewis Place at their Halloween Open House. This year, the two dawned salt and pepper shaker costumes. The photoshoot was one to see as the two posed for the camera and enjoyed the beautiful fall foliage on Oxford’s campus.

Their photo shoot generated 7,508 engagements and was met with positive reactions.
