High wind warning for Butler, surrounding counties through 10 p.m.

Remnants of Hurricane Helene are impacting our region and the National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Butler and surrounding counties through 10 p.m. this evening, Sep. 27. Expect common wind gusts of 20-40 mph with up to 60 mph wind gusts.

Damaging winds are likely to down trees and power lines and may have power outage impacts. High wind gusts may also make driving challenging especially for those in high profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions you may take include watching for falling debris and tree limbs, using caution when driving, remaining in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoiding windows.

Additional weather alerts and notifications may be shared via RedHawk Alert, the university’s emergency notification service. As always, it is advisable to monitor communication channels such as the National Weather Service and local news, and enable RedHawk Alerts.
