Committee formed to review potential arena sites

As Miami University continues to plan how it will evolve over the next decade to strengthen the student experience, enrich Oxford, and foster economic development in the region, it is exploring building a new multipurpose arena.

Ideally a new arena would be centrally located on campus, within walking distance for students and to Uptown Oxford, able to hold multiple events concurrently, and could better host university and city events, such as lectures, convocation, concerts, career fairs, and graduations. The university’s current arena, Millett Hall, opened in 1968 and would require more than $80 million in renovations in the near term.

The university has recently appointed a committee to review potential arena locations, working closely with the Department of Planning, Architecture, and Engineering, which has identified numerous sites on campus for consideration.

The committee will consider the feasibility of each site and evaluate the potential enhancement and impact of each location on the student experience, campus, and the greater Oxford community.

The committee plans to solicit feedback via a survey to consider input from the Miami community on feasible sites, with a goal of making a site recommendation to Miami President Gregory Crawford by early 2025.

As Miami considers this and other potential projects through the strategic planning lens, it will prioritize those projects that benefit students and the community and strengthen the local economy of its campuses. Miami looks forward to sharing updates on this and other projects as they develop.
Established in 1809, Miami University is located in Oxford, Ohio, with regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, a learning center in West Chester, and a European study center in Luxembourg.
