Miami University’s appearance in the Dec. 28 Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop left quite an impression.

Not only did the RedHawks claim an overwhelming 43-17 victory over Colorado State in Tucson, but the game and clips were broadcast nationwide to all 50 states on The CW Network. Miami’s victory drew a total viewership of 567,000 for the Saturday afternoon tilt, with a record Arizona Bowl crowd of 40,076 in attendance.

“The people running the bowl told us that teams come in as friends and leave as family, and that is so true,” said David Sayler, Miami’s director of athletics. “The care, effort, and involvement of so many people made this a memorable experience for all of our Miami students who got to experience it. Ali Farhang, Kym Adair, and Laura Feemster (of the Arizona Bowl) plus many others did an amazing job, including of course the host with the most – Snoop Dogg.

“The entire experience of the bowl and all that went on around it gave a national stage to Miami University, and all our students delivered on that stage.”

This was Miami’s fifth straight bowl appearance and eighth in the last nine years. The Arizona Bowl was Miami’s 16th overall bowl appearance, beginning with the 1948 Sun Bowl (a 13-12 victory over Texas Tech).

The last five years included stops in the LendingTree Bowl (2020), the Frisco Football Classic (2021), the HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl (2022), and the Avocados from Mexico Cure Bowl (2023).

Snoop Dogg, the bowl’s sponsor and iconic musician and producer, collaborated with both the Miami and Colorado State marching bands for the bowl’s halftime show.

“For our kids … they’re doing a halftime show with somebody who held the torch at the Olympics,” said Chuck Martin, Miami’s football coach. “The games are cool, but the experiences are even better.”

Nearly 2,000 unique social media posts were created around Miami and the bowl game. More than 12,000 people engaged with the social media content, which generated nearly 43 million impressions. That included a post featuring Snoop Dogg with a Miami jersey that was shared nearly 2,500 times. Search traffic for Miami also increased by 18% on game day.

Miami’s publicity for earned media and social media around the Arizona Bowl is valued at $225 million.

Miami finished its season 9-5 overall, 7-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The RedHawks advanced to the MAC championship game at Ford Field in Detroit as Martin became the winningest coach in program history.

“We were in a situation where we had to win out to get to Detroit,” Martin said. “It’s been a memorable year, and we’ve got a bunch of amazing seniors we’re going to miss like crazy.”
