The All-Majors Career and Internship Fair launches this spring’s networking events on Feb. 19 from 1-5 p.m. in Millett Hall. Abercrombie & Fitch, Avery Dennison, Chipotle Mexican Grill - Corporate, Epic, FC Cincinnati, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Honda, Medpace, Midstory, Nationwide, and Nucor Raw Materials are among the employers scheduled to attend.

“We had an amazing turnout of both employers and students at our fall career fairs,” said Jennifer Benz, assistant vice president of the Center for Career Exploration and Success. “We will build on our success this spring. As in the fall, our participating employers offer a great mix of full-time and internship positions, making our fairs beneficial for students of all majors and class years. I am excited to watch Miami students build meaningful connections and take the next steps in their career journeys.”

The Architecture + Design Career and Internship Fair follows on Feb. 24 from 1-4 p.m. in the Shriver Center JDOL Rooms. Beyond architecture firms, employers hiring in communication design, digital marketing, graphic design, interior design, and user interface and experience design will be in attendance. Sample employers include Gus Perdikakis Associates, Luckett & Farley, and MarketVision Research.

The Careers for the Common Good Fair takes place on March 11 from 1-4 p.m. in the Shriver Center JDOL Rooms. The Council on Aging, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, and the Peace Corps are among the government, healthcare, nonprofit, public service, social service, and other socially-conscious workplaces registered to participate.

The Teacher Job Fair concludes this spring’s career fair calendar on March 14 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. in Millett Hall. This fair is an invaluable opportunity for graduating senior Education majors to connect with schools hiring for teacher positions, including Columbus City Schools, Indian Hill Exempted Village School District, and Talawanda School District.

At all four career fairs, students will have the opportunity to speak with employer representatives, gain insight into career opportunities, and distribute copies of their resumes. Employers use career fairs to identify candidates to invite for interviews. Students are strongly encouraged to use Handshake, Miami’s job/internship search platform, to research the attending employers in advance.

“We all know that professional dress, a firm handshake, and good eye contact are important, but they are far from the only things that make a student stand out,” Benz said. “When my team talks with employers, they always say the students who stand out the most are the ones who have done their homework. Researching employers helps you to develop an elevator pitch that says who you are and why you’re qualified for a given position. It also helps you ask knowledgeable questions about a company’s mission, values, and available opportunities. As importantly, it gives you confidence going into an important conversation.”

The career fairs are far from the only networking events planned for this spring. A CAS Networking Night the evening before the All-Majors Career and Internship Fair, and Career Days for targeted student groups throughout the semester, are also on the docket. The Center for Career Exploration and Success’s full calendar can be viewed on its Programs and Events page.
